AIC Strengthening Australia’s IP Ties with Malaysia
The Secretary General of the Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Dato' Abdul Hanan Alang Endut visited the AIC’s head office in late January, with the express purpose of understanding how the AIC operates and how the AIC and MOSTI might be able to collaborate even more closely.
Presently, the AIC works collaboratively with three MOSTI agencies:

MIGHT (Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology) - drives
Malaysia ’s high technology development agenda through building demand-driven collaborations with industry and universities -
SIRIM Berhad -
Malaysia ’s leading organisation in industrial research, fulfilling industry needs by blending new innovations with quality and standards -
MTDC (Malaysian Technology Development Corporation) - the leading venture capital organisation in
Malaysia , concentrating on the promotion and commercialisation of local research and investing in new ventures that can bring in new technologies from abroad.
AIC services have included the establishment and delivery of a pilot TechFast program, commercialisation Bootcamp programs, installation of the Commercialisation Management System for IP opportunity analysis, and provision of strategic advice to agency clients on IP management.
From the AIC perspective, the activity has been able to:

Open a conduit for sharing leading international practice and policy

Raise the profile of and create networks for both Australian and Malaysian businesses, research organisations and IP

Establish further international collaborations.
Such international collaborations are proving fruitful for both AIC and MOSTI, since they hold the possibility of extending existing research collaborations beyond the discovery phase into commercialisation and will create higher impact.
