THE AIC CONTINUES ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH MALAYSIA

THE AIC CONTINUES ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH MALAYSIA

The Australian Institute for Commercialisation (AIC) continues to strengthen its relationship with Malaysia for mutual benefit through two recent initiatives. The first involved the delivery of a presentation to a post-Cabinet meeting and the delivery of an Intellectual Property Primer presentation.

The Malaysian government is seeking to develop its economy to a knowledge-based  economy and has sought internationally leading practice innovation and commercialisation processes.  Last year the AIC delivered its Commercialisation Management System (CMS) and the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MiGHT) has customised the system for the dual purpose of assisting Malaysian companies progress their opportunities, and for capturing intellectual property generated through Malaysian universities and research institutes.

During May the AIC was invited to deliver an executive presentation and discussion session on ‘Intellectual Property: Commercialisation and Exploitation’. The participants were approximately 50 senior executives from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), including the Secretary General, Deputies, Directors of Divisions and Heads of the Agencies.

The following day the AIC delivered a one day Intellectual Property (IP) Primer presentation to over 100 senior representatives from Malaysia ’s public universities and institutes at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.  The IP Primer aimed to:

  •  Raise awareness of intellectual property and the value for Malaysia
  •  Understand the process of strategic IP management
  •  Prepare organisations and institutes for IP auditing, IP Process Management, IP Protection and IP Commercialisation.

Malaysia is in the early stages of developing its strategies and programs to capitalize on its intellectual property nationally and both presentations were warmly received.
