AIC Serial Entrepreneur Recognised in 30Under30 Awards
AIC staff member David Ball has taken out one of the top 30 spots in Anthill Magazine’s 2009 ’30under30’ Awards, and in doing so has been recognised as one of Australia’s leading entrepreneurial minds under the age of 30.
The winners were announced on the on AnthillOnline.com, after a three month application and judging process, designed to encourage and promote young entrepreneurship in
“The ’30under30’ Awards were developed to recognise a new breed of Australian business leader,” said James Tuckerman, Editor-In-Chief, Anthill Magazine.
“The 2009 winners can be characterised by optimism (coupled with pragmatism), relentless ambition (but never at all costs), an intuitive knowledge of the new economy (without the techo-talk) and an awareness of the bigger picture.”
The judging of the 2009 ‘30under30’ Awards took into account far more than mere business variables, such as revenue and wealth. The judging process involved personality traits, the history of the applicant and his/her ability to overcome commercial and personal obstacles. Each applicant was judged against other applicants in his/her age field and his/her industry or field of expertise.
David completed a Bachelor of Biotechnology Innovation degree with Honours in 2008. Prior to joining the AIC, David launched a number of successful start-up ventures in the web 2.0 and biotechnology space, includingZebras International Pty Ltd (AskaTradie.com), Bionews.com.au, and Biobranding.com.au. In 2008, he was a finalist in the UQ Enterprize competition.
David joined the Australian Institute for Commercialisation in 2009 as a Market Research Analyst. He is responsible for delivering customised market research services to a range of clients ranging from government agencies to small to medium sized enterprises. David is also responsible for organising AIC TechClinics on behalf of the Department of Environment, Economic Development and Innovation.
David said that it was great to be recognised for something that he was passionate about and loved doing.
“Innovation is what drives me. I believe that innovation needs to be encouraged more in Australia and I hope through my work at the AIC I can assist in building Australia as an innovation hub” Ball said.
