The AIC Facilitates Life Sciences Commercialisation Bootcamp
The AIC recently worked in conjunction with Queensland Health and the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation - Office of Biotechnology and Therapeutic Medicines and Devices to deliver a Commercialisation Bootcamp in
The goals of the Life Sciences Commercialisation Bootcamp was to assist researchers and life science professionals gain an understanding of the steps involved in commercialising research. When asked about their motivation for attending the Bootcamp, participants said they wished to: continue knowledge and skills development, gain a better understanding of commercialisation and obtain further knowledge around the policies, issues, and strategies used to manage IP and commercialisation.
Over the course of the two day workshop, participants were given a thorough understanding of what is involved in taking an idea to market. Dr Lewis Atkinson facilitated the workshop and the program contained a mixture of presentation, guest speakers, case studies, group activities and workshops. The Bootcamp culminated in the participants presenting a pitch to a panel of venture capitalists.
Feedback from participants indicated that the Bootcamp was highly successful and provided much needed education in the area of life sciences commercialisation. Dr Simone Harrison from Sunsmart Industries described it as a “wonderfully informative workshop demystifying research commercialisation process”, and Professor Chris Langton from QUT said “although I have 20 years experience of medical device commercialisation, I learned a great deal, particularly regarding process and VC. A very valuable two days packed with relevant information.”
