MIGHT and AIC set to Collaborate

MIGHT and AIC set to Collaborate

Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Australian Institute for Commercialisation (AIC) to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, market insights and business intelligence in promoting the growth of new technology-based start ups and businesses.

This follows the recent engagement of the AIC by the Malaysian government to provide strategic advice on a number of key innovation and collaboration policies and initiatives.

MIGHT Chief Executive Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman said the group also aimed to further enhance their innovation gateway resources, known as “InnoXchangeTM”, as a result of the partnership.

“Launched mid last year, InnoXchangeTM promotes a common exchange platform for the sharing and management of technology and R&D resources to facilitate technology transfer and commercialisation,” Mr Sulaiman said.

The MOU will complement MIGHT's catalytic role along the innovation continuum in the areas of market intelligence and research and technology transfer and acquisition.

“This encompasses technology trading, IP management, technology verification, technology assessment and valuation, as well as market scanning, foresighting and business opportunity identification. Complementing this initiative is our newly established Technomart Malaysia™, a technology marketplace to promote technology trading and outsourcing”.

AIC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Rowan Gilmore said the partnership was indicative of the interest of other countries in some of the pioneering programs the AIC had developed.

“The AIC’s TechFast program was one of the first structured examples of how demand-pull commercialisation can be facilitated. The program is well regarded and has facilitated over 70 collaborations between industry and the research sector. It is a credit to the Malaysian government that the AIC now receives more support from them than it does from the Australian Government for this program” Dr Gilmore said.

The MOU is an initiative under MIGHT@International program, whereby strategic partnerships with like-minded organisations overseas are established for a mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge, technological resources and networks at regional level. Korea Technology Transfer Center (KTTC) and Thailand NSTDA are key partners of MIGHT as a result of this program.

MIGHT, a government-industry partnership platform, under the purview of MOSTI, will continue to harness its core competencies to build on the networks, scale and linkages in advancing high technology development agenda at a national level.
