AIC teams with ATSE to launch the 2010 Australian Innovation Festival in Queensland

AIC teams with ATSE to launch the 2010 Australian Innovation Festival in Queensland

The AIC and the Australian Academy of Technological Scientists and Engineers (ATSE) are together hosting the launch event of the 2010 Australian Innovation Festival in Queensland . The 2010 Festival commences on 22 April and runs throughout May to celebrate the 4Cs of Innovation - Creativity, Connections, Collaboration and Commercialisation. These key elements are behind every major Australian innovative or entrepreneurial endeavour.

This year’s Festival theme “Building Sustainable Businesses” highlights the importance of innovation during this period of regeneration from last year’s global economic uncertainty. Many people equate the term “innovation” with having a long term R&D perspective, but of limited relevance to immediate business needs. More than ever, organisations need to “innovate” to meet the challenge of increased competition and ever changing consumer and market needs.

That’s why the Queensland launch event is titled “Research Commercialisation – Are we there yet?” and to discuss whether the commercialisation of research really has built sustainable businesses, or indeed is relevant to innovation at all (see our article in this newsletter for a preview of our thoughts).  AIC’s CEO Dr. Rowan Gilmore will be joined by Australia’s leading research commercialisation organisation Uniquest’s CEO David Henderson, and CEO of award-winning incubator i.Lab Anne-Marie Birkhill to discuss progress over the past decade and the role of research in broader commercialisation.

The event will be held in the Clunies Ross Centre at the Brisbane Technology Park , commencing at 5:30pm for discussion to begin at 6:00pm, and followed by drinks and light food concluding by 8:00pm. There is no charge for the event. If you’re interested in attending, contact Genevieve Langbien at the AIC on 07 3853 5292 or by e-mail on Genevieve.langbien@ausicom.com
