Enable 2010 � Enabling Innovation in Australia�s new world city

The AIC partnered with Brisbane Marketing during its Enable 2010 week (July 19 to 28), an innovation festival local to Brisbane to help position Brisbane and South East Queensland as an �enabler� of innovation.

A range of initiatives took place which brought together industry, academia and government and offered the unique opportunity for collaboration between these sectors. �The AIC assisted by partnering in a range of events including:

Innovation Series Lunch

�Eco Innovations: Sustaining Industry and the Environment� � Monday 19 July 2010

Business leaders were treated to three fascinating insights into pursuing research and commercialisation of technologies that can make better use of our natural resources at the �Eco Innovations: Sustaining Industry and the Environment� Innovation Series luncheon.��

Bill Lyons , General�Manager, Boeing�Research�& Technology - Australia �presented the challenges faced in the development and commercialisation of sustainable aviation fuel.� Andrew Lawson, Managing Director, MBD Energy , outlined new technology which holds the key to rapid, large scale CO2 emissions reduction from existing coal and gas fired power stations and other smoke-stack industries. Dean Cameron, Founder, Biolytix Group , discussed how the use of biomimicry in business can change the way we approach water treatment, and addressed the challenges facing an innovative business as it pursues a sustainable future.

Green Building Industry Workshop � Thursday 22 July

Dr. John Kapeleris , Deputy CEO facilitated a workshop entitled �Sustainable Communities - fostering a local supply chain for green building materials and associated clean technologies�. The workshop was held to determine the current activity in the manufacturing of sustainable building materials, and to explore strategies to foster clean technology integration into sustainable design and the built environment.

Australian Innovation Exhibition � Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 July

During this two-day exhibition showcasing Australian innovation to the business community, innovation experts from the AIC hosted a number of consulting clinics to advise entrepreneurs on the best strategies and techniques to progress their ideas further.

A range of formal seminars and workshops were also held, including �Are you ready to commercialise?� and �Pitching to succeed�, presented by Dr. John Kapeleris of the AIC. The first of these provided attendees with the knowledge and tools required to commercialise an idea and take it to market, the latter provided insights on how to 'pitch' ideas for the purpose of attracting investors and collaborators.
