94 per cent of Ideas2Market workshop attendees now feel more prepared to start their business

A fantastic introductory workshop! was just one of the comments already received from entrepreneurs attending the 2010/11 season of Ideas2Market workshops with 94 per cent of attendees stating that as a result of attending the workshop, they feel more confident and more prepared to start their business.

The AIC along with the Queensland Governments Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation have developed a workshop program to provide entrepreneurs with all the information, tools and guides they need to start or grow their business.

The Ideas2Market workshops are delivered by the AICs professional facilitators and have already assisted over 1,200 Queensland entrepreneurs along their path to commercialisation.

There are two types of workshops in the program. Introductory Workshops are designed for those who would like to start a business, novice inventors, or those with early-stage business ideas, while the Masterclass Workshops are designed for existing businesses that are looking to grow, improve and gain a competitive advantage.

In November 2010, the AIC delivered five Introductory workshops across Queensland in Toowoomba, Gympie, Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton. Feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive and participants have said they leave the workshops feeling motivated and enthusiastic.

Di Ebsworth, from Brisbane Superyacht Services, attended the Gympie Introductory workshop on 16 November 2010 and said that there was a good balance between encouragement and caution to ensure that homework is done before starting a business. Tanya Bothams, from Tim Bothams Plumbing agreed, and said it was a fantastic introductory workshop! Participants especially appreciated the clear and informative presentation delivered by intellectual property specialist Paul Harrison from Shelston IP.

Sue Carroll from Cairns based company Investors in Nature attended the sold-out Cairns Ideas2Market Introductory Workshop on 25 November 2010. She described the workshop as a "very informative, professional and casual presentation from people who have good industry experience, not just text book scenarios.

The guest speaker presentation from local Cairns business In Depth Video and Photography was a highlight of the workshop. Participants were delighted with the valuable advice and stories shared by business owner Mark Geddes about his journey to commercialise a range of new products.

From the five workshops delivered across Queensland in 2010, 94 per cent of participants stated that as a result of attending the workshop, they felt more confident and more prepared to start their business.

With such positive feedback and results from the workshops so far, the AICs Education Manager Genevieve Langbien is enthusiastic about the five additional workshops planned for 2011.

We have five more workshops to be delivered before the end of May, in the Gold Coast, Toowoomba, South Brisbane and two in Mt Isa. Were looking forward to working with more of Queenslands ambitious and talented entrepreneurs its always inspiring to meet such remarkable people.

Genevieve says she frequently receives feedback from participants delighted with the networking opportunities provided by attending an Ideas2Market workshop. Often starting a business is a lonely enterprise, so it helps to talk to likeminded people going through the same experience. Plenty of useful business partnerships have been made by people who have met at our workshops its a beneficial side effect of attending!

To find out when Ideas2Market workshops are scheduled near you, visit the AICs Ideas2Market webpage or call Genevieve on 07 3853 5292.

Limited seats are available for each workshop, so register early to secure your place. Both the Introductory and Masterclass workshops each run from 8.30am - 5pm, and cost $110 per person (incl. GST) which covers all catering on the day and hard copy course materials and reference notes.
