Challenge to increase the rate of success for new ventures
The two-day competition acts as a launch pad for new ventures by allowing teams of entrepreneurial students to pitch their business ventures to a panel of expert judges, gain insightful feedback and work with an experienced mentor to further develop their business plan and business model.
After two years interstate, The John Heine Entrepreneurial
Challenge will return to its home at the QUT Business School on 8 and 9 December
2011.
Supported by the Australian Institute for Commercialisation (AIC), this national event aims to extend national and international networks for young entrepreneurs and educators.
Last year’s winner, Relivit, intends to build a number of facilities to process certain niche waste streams which are currently difficult to process viably at a small scale. These facilities will source waste under contract and use a new industrial treatment process to recover valuable resources, thereby meeting environmental and commercial needs to divert waste from landfill.
This year’s overall winning team and runner up both receive a cash prize from the Heine Family and other in-kind services from supporting organisations including the AIC, McCullough Robertson Lawyers, BDO, Johnston Rorke, and Business Angels. The overall winning team will receive automatic entry into Venture Labs Investment Competition at the University of Texas in Austin, representing Australia with a chance to win $100,000.
The business community and university network are also encouraged to get involved by:
- Voting online for the best 60 second video pitch
- Attending the Entrepreneurship Workshop
- Attending the New Venture Showcase Awards and Reception
The 2011 John Heine Entrepreneurial Challenge will be held on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 December 2011 at the QUT Gardens Point Campus.
