AIC Submission to the Garnaut Climate Change Review

AIC Submission to the Garnaut Climate Change Review

This paper argues that the cleantech sector is a promising new opportunity for Australian industry, but that today it is a cottage industry. In order for Australia to develop an internationally competitive sustainable industries sector, appropriate planning and infrastructure needs to be put in place.

Australia must develop workplace skills and a culture of innovation through education and training; it must create a stronger business environment that supports sustainability but at the same time can recognise and capture opportunities to commercialise new sustainable resources emerging from R&D. A number of mechanisms to achieve this, such as the AIC’s TechFast program, are suggested.
