RipCurl
RipCurl is an Australian based company, originated in 1969 in Torquay, Victoria’s surfing capital. It started as a surfboarding company, but by 1970 the founders realised that huge market of wetsuits was almost untapped and they decided to shift the company’s focus to the wetsuits manufacturing. By 1977 the company was producing wetsuits for windsurfers, sailors and water skiers as well as surfers. Now nine corporate licensees make and sell Rip Curl products in Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, France, Israel, Indonesia, Mauritius, Japan, New Zealand, Peru, South Africa and the USA with RipCurl products being sold all over the world.
RipCurl engaged AIC to assist the company to find new technologies and advanced materials that would keep the second generation of wetsuits “H Bomb” at the forefront of wet suit performance and development. As a result of TechFast program, new materials where found and several technologies have been transferred from technology providers in the Automotive, Giftware and Safety products industries in Victoria. These activities helped RipCurl to achieve the development of a new product feature that the organisation has been seeking to develop for some years.
